In 2009, Con Alma Health Foundation started a tradition of recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the health of their communities, large and small. We call them Heroes of Health.
Heroes of Health recipients are passionate about improving health in New Mexico.
Heroes come from any field. Past recipients have been health-care providers, policy makers, advocates, clinicians, administrators, and volunteers.
Each year, we call for nominations for Heroes from around the state and a $2,000 donation is given to an eligible New Mexico nonprofit of the honoree’s choosing.
Nominations open in September 2025
2024 Heroes
Meet our 2024 Heroes of Health: Dr. Anjali Taneja and Sophia Weatherly. Dr. Taneja leads innovative, community-based care at Casa de Salud in Albuquerque, blending modern medicine with traditional healing. Sophia, a youth leader from Taos, empowers her peers through service and advocacy for health and environmental justice.
Their shared commitment to community-driven, health-equity leadership perfectly embodies the spirit of the Con Alma Heroes of Health initiative.
